Student Visa
Student Visa

On a student visa you are permitted to work legally for 20 hours per week. A part-time job of 20 hours per week normally pays enough to live comfortably in Australia. Of course it depends on your expectations, but most of our students work on a student visa and are able to support themselves in Australia without outside help. Average salaries in Australia are high and even doing casual, largely unskilled work, it is possible to pay rent, food and other living costs while working just 20 hours per week. While on a student visa you are permitted to work full-time during holiday periods.

A very important part of the Go Study Australia service is assisting students in the subject of jobs. Especially when they first arrive in Australia it’s so important to have someone (or a team of people) who are dedicated to helping you with jobs.

There are jobs in Australia even for those who speak very little English. However, it is natural that the more English you have the more job opportunities you will have. It is also true to say that if you have a long visa (more than just a few months) you will find it easier to get a good job. Many companies prefer not to hire someone with a short visa, especially if they have to train them in the job.

Most students on a student visa start by doing casual jobs such as cleaning or hospitality jobs. These jobs include work in restaurants, cafes, hotels and similar establishments. With a very strong tourism sector in Australia there are lots of jobs in this field.

Most students earn between $15 and $20 per hour. With a good level of English they can earn up to $40 per hour if they have a special skill, but to give a realistic idea for most students the earning average weekly earnings are $300 to $500 per week.
