Easter time in Australia means it’s the time of year that Hot Cross Buns are available!

Aussie’s supermarkets line their shelves with these sweet little delights weeks before Easter, but they’re only available for a limited time each year. They’ve become somewhat of an Australian Easter tradition. The buns were originally crafted with a cross on their dough in honour of Good Friday in the 12th century and were traditionally enjoyed at the end of the season of lent when people could indulge in dairy again. Since then, the buns have moved away from just being a part of a religious tradition, and are now enjoyed by Australians from all different kinds of backgrounds. Last year alone, over 10 million buns were sold! Aussies will surely be eating these all weekend long!
